CHI® Enviro Firm Hold Hairspray – 12 oz. Thumbs Up!

If you are in need of a hair spray with holding power and not a stiff fee to it. I would highly recommend Enviro Firm Hold Hair Spray.  I did a few photo-shoots a few weeks ago and this product held up to the windy conditions of the beach.  This product worked well and did not leave a residue to the hair and I also could easily re-iron the hair if I wanted to.

  • Lightweight
  • Versatile spray
  • No build up
  • Firm Hold

Give it a try everyone!!

Joseph Kellner Victoria’s Secret Hair Care Review.

I have my own preference on what will work for me in the salon and also for Photo shoots. And there are not too many brands that will do the same in the salon and outside. Mainly because of the difference in temperature especially in Florida. I am not a fan of professional water downed products that at one time did what it said it did. But now they are owned by many of the major beauty houses and the products no longer do what they do anymore. So I decided to try the Victoria’s Secret brand of Hair Care. Well I put it to the test and it came out with flying colors.  Beautiful scent of crushed leaves, freesia and water hyacinth.

Victoria's Secret Hair Ultimate Hairspray Victoria’s Secret Ultimate Hair Spray – Marathon hold, maximum frizz control, brilliant shine—it’s the Supermodel way to flawless, ultra sexy style. This is great for curling the hair and also for flat ironing the hair. It has a lovely scent and is a very workable product.  Also when you are on set it is a liver saver for fly away hairs, you know the ones that have to be edited out of the photo.  The cost of the product is very affordable also.  Not only for the consumer but also for the consumer.  This is a hands winner!

Leave-in Conditioner

Victoria’s Secret Live-in Conditioner –  Say hello to soft, shiny style with a lightweight conditioner that detangles and quenches dry, parched hair and eliminates frizz and fly away hairs. Very good for blow drying the hair and it also has a very light scent to the product like crushed leaves, freesia and water hyacinth. It easily combs out  super thick wavy hair and I like to use it for swimming pool photo’s for a slicked back look.  I have also used it by itself for blow drying. Hands a winner for me.  Lovely for the salon and also on set.

Hair spray or dry shampoo for on location photo shoots.

When I am working on set it is important to choose the right styling product to use on the hair, if not I am screwed. During the very first shoot I am more willing to use a dry shampoo to create body in the hair and it will also give me a little holding factor for the first group of photographs. Using a working hair spray is fine if I am curling the hair or changing the style with the dress changes. But too much hair spray will drag down the hair and make it useless to recreate a style or change it.  I like to use the TIGI Dry Shampoo or the Victoria’s Secret Dry Shampoo, both are very nice to work with and also they both have some very nice scents.

Joseph Kellner SalonLayer TIGI Pro Day 2 Dry Shampoo through the hair and then blast through with a hairdryer for an even dispersal and a natural feeling. I can spray it in the hair and set the hair with hot rollers, curling irons, pencil sticks, etc and will get a great amount of volume and if I am working outside or in a well lighted studio any scalp sweating will all be absorbed. There is no feeling of build up with the product and it is easy to comb through. Wonderful to use at home for in between shampoo’s.

  • Adds volume and texture
  • Refreshes the hair
  • Absorbs excess oil

TIGI PRO Day 2 Dry Shampoo is perfect to use between washes. Instantly refreshes the hair, absorbing excess oil and adding volume and texture. I recommend it for in salon usage and also for on set photography.  And by the way the Victoria’s Secret Dry Shampoo Is Discontinued.  Shit!!!!

BOOST – HOLD Hair Spray, Love It!

Hands down BOOST & HOLD Hair Spray is better than anything in the beauty industry. Giving me the confidence of a root volumizer and a workable hair spray. I recommend this for any editorial stylist on a location photo shoot for  all of your modeling work. I have had  no problems of clogging and the amount dispersed is a good measure. Being it is a aerosol spray I can also use it for sets, curling iron sets, and also flat iron sets. The product is not gummy or hard to work with. A very natural hold to the hair.  The product is good for all hair types and will give you a workable hold. The product comes in a 7oz metal container and is priced a lot more affordable at $15.00 than any other product sold in salons. You can definitely rely on this product. Hands down a winner.

1000x1000 (3)This will definitely be used at the Joseph Kellner Salon.

I get a lot of question from clients who will ask me in the salon during their appointment. ‘Is it better to flat-iron the hair with a hair spray?”

I recommend using hair spray on the hair when using a flat-iron or a curling iron. Preferably an aerosol type of spray. I have found that the use of a pump-action spray has too much “Gum” and also too much “Water” in the product. Also a lot of consumers need to know that the temperature of the flat-iron and also the curling iron should fluctuate during the straightening process and also the curling process. You should not use a high temperature on blonde hair that is artificially lightened. Especially when bleach has been used. Thick coarse hair will need a higher temperature when curling the hair. And hair that has been lightened with a bleach should need to have extra attention to it when curling.  Pre-lightened or bleached hair should also have some type of spray added to the section before curling. Make sure your sections are of the same size. A thicker section will give you a looser curl. If that is what you want. When you are finished styling the hair also always use a light condition cream throughout the hair for added softness. This will take away from the crispness of the hair spray. But the hair spray will also give you a firmer hold to the hair.

If you reach for a curling iron, flat-iron, or other heat-styling tools daily, learn how to protect your hair. Using a heat-protectant spray will save your locks from turning frizzy, dry, and brittle.

I first learned about protecting my hair from heat from my wedding hair stylist. Because I chose a hairstyle full of curls, this product saved my long hair from unwanted damage. Since the wedding, I’ve used the spray to not only protect my hair, but also to make my curls last all day and night. Here’s how I recommend to do the process!

Prep Your Hair – If you’ve just washed your hair, dry it. Use a towel to blot out the water, and then use a blow dryer on a low, cool setting. Although this process isn’t speedy, it will do less damage to your hair. Cool air smooths the cuticle, leaving you with shinier tresses.

Make Small Sections – Next, thoroughly comb your hair and divide out the first small section to style. Whether you’re using a curling iron, flat-iron, crimper, or other heat-styling tool, you’ll want to apply it to one small section of hair at a time.

Hold the Hair – Place the hair in the heat styling tool  and slide it to the end of the hair so you can hold the hair away from your head. Spray a fine mist of heat protectant along the length of the hair. Keep the bottle of spray at least 12 inches away from the hair so the spray isn’t concentrated on one small area of hair. I recommend a dry lightweight aerosol hair spray.

Style the Hair – Now, style your hair. Twist the barrel of the curling iron to loop the hair onto itself, or pull the flat-iron slowly down the length of the hair. After styling that one section, repeat this spray-and-style process until you’ve finished. If you’re creating curls, leave them intact until you’re done using the heat-styling tools.

Set the Look – Finally, spray a fine mist of hairspray over the heat-styled areas. Now, use your fingers or a pick to break apart the curls or blend straightened hair. Finish the look by adding hair accessories if desired. Usually, a final mist of hairspray is unneeded because heat-protectant sprays add rigidity to the hair.
