Hair Color Before And After Part Two

Two weeks ago I made a blog on my model who is having hair color correction. The other day we went to work on the hair by adding low lights to the hair color to start giving it a fall color and added dimension. Which it lacked.  We added low lights to the hair which was in the level seven family and also added a ash color to complement it. We have finally cancelled out all of the yellow in her hair. The next appointment will be for highlights. To soften the dark root color.  I gave the client a bottle of Frost hair color toner to use every week. This will keep her hair color on mark and will stop all fading of it also.

This toner is used for pre-lightened hair. It’s a great hair product that won’t damage your hair! It actually restores the pH balance of your hair and makes it oh so soft. It improves the quality and shine of your hair while soothing your scalp all at the same time!!

Shine Nectar For My Photo-Shoot Model

Over the weekend I had a photo-shoot with a very talented model who came down from Michigan. She had ethnic Hair and I wanted separation and shine to the hair for this photo-shoot. I used Shine Nectar from Jack Winn.  For separation and shine. The product did not weight the hair down at all. Nor did it make it greasy. Very easy to work with. The product had a very light scent to it.  A clean scent. Lovely. Great for styling the hair and for shine.

The makeup for this photo-shoot was MAC Makeup. Location of this photo-shoot was in Orlando, Florida.

Redken Hair Color Change For Fall

This Model was prepared for her Photo-Shoot this week and requested a deeper color all over. I also suggested that it would be a good idea since the hair was dry and brittle from constant overlapping and flat ironing.  When ever you use a curling iron or flat iron. Always prep the hair with a styling lotion and dry all of the hair thoroughly. Section your hair and curl or straighten it and use a dry hair spray on each section to protect it.  Don’t use any products with moisture in it.

A level 4.3 and 6.4 was mixed for the new-growth and also the same formula for the mid shaft and ends of the hair. With varying developer strengths. Shea Moisture Cosmetics was used to wash and condition the hair. And for styling the hair. Excellent product to work with. There was no color gloss’s added to the hair of the completion of the permanent hair color service.  Mac Makeup was used for her Photo-Shoot.  The Photo-Shoot was held on Melbourne Beach Florida.

TEASEless Volumizing Powder Shake Works Great For Styling

josephkellner.com180PRO Tease less Volumizing Powder Shake provides build-able, mold-able volume, texture and hold to effortlessly recreate “BIG” styles without the damage of back combing and over styling. This product worked great for me during a recent photo shoot. Lots of hair care products do not hold up to the Florida weather and humidity. But this product did very well.  I used it on the model above and taking the section and applying it to the roots gave me the volume I needed to refresh the hair. Remember to shake the can each and every time you use the product. There was no flaking or any drying out of the hair. I could restyle the hair effortlessly. The was also no build-up feel to the hair and it was easy to brush through. This product I purchased as Sally’s Beauty Supply. My client also told me it was very easy to shampoo out of the hair and easy to comb out after shampooing.  Thumbs up product!  The price was a sell for me also, $9.99 for 136 ml. Great but my friends!

Goldwell hair color, high lights the Photo shoot!

Haircolorinorlando.comThis is our model Selah, she requested a lighter hair color for her photo shoot. Her natural base color is a level 7 neutral. We used Goldwell level 7gb for low lights and Goldwell Powder Lightener for her foil h. And we used a 10bg Colorance color glaze for the final highlights process. Her makeup was A Golden Tan 1 foundation using Joe Blasco Foundation, and MAC eye shadows, cheek color, blush,  and lip stick. The photo shoot came out wonderful her. Always use the best products for the hair and since Selah is a model she is in the salon a lot. So it is good to try not to overdo the hair color. Keeping good hygiene for the skin is also very important.  When you are finished doing the final preparation for the models make always take a photograph and check, check, check. Also with the hair, check for fly away hairs, try teasing and not so much hairspray. Keep the lip stick fresh through the photo shoot.

Check, Check all your work.

FULL EXPOSURE PALETTE By Smashbox Is a wonderful product to work with and it is true to tone for all of your eye shadow colors.  I used this palette on Jamilla for her first photo-shoot and I was very surprised. The product holds.  I did not need a primer for the extra hold on the eye lids. And blending was effortless. This palette is a real deal also for the consumer priced at $50.00 dollars you cant go wrong. I was roaming around Ulta for some lip liners and low and behold there it was in front of me.  There was no flacking of the shadows, hardly any clean up at all.  I did not even need to punch up the makeup at all except to add a few new colors to her photo-shoot . Normally I rely on MAC for all of my photo-shoots I am hired for.  The use of eyeshades worked well on this model.  This was Jamilla’s first photo-shoot!

But next time I will use this palette again. The palette also came with a mascara which worked well also. I try not to use one product line for my cosmetics I use in the salon.  I prefer to use what works for me, which is normally different brands.. The same also for when I am dressing the hair. Look around if you are a Make-up Artist there are a lot of good products in a lot of different cosmetic company’s to play with.

PHOTO FINISH FOUNDATION PRIMER is another product I often use from SMASHBOX wonderful collections of products for the face. Create a perfect canvas for foundation application with this silky, lightweight blend of vitamins A & E, grape seed extract and green tea. Worn alone or under foundation, our best-selling, oil-free primer helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and pores for flawless skin with a velvety-smooth finish. This I say is a must for good makeup applications and for editorial or film work. Apply a dime-size amount of PHOTO FINISH FOUNDATION PRIMER to clean or moisturized skin, using fingertips, for complexion perfection. Follow with your favorite foundation. And guess what I also used it on the hair to keep the fly-away hairs from peeking up there ugly heads. So if you like to tame frizzes’, try smoothing primer through wet or dry hair. And then blow dry the hair, or use it on the dry before curling. It’s amazing!

Styling Tools are Important!

JosephKellner.com

Doing a good hair color and hair design and giving the client their own look is hard enough in the salon. But giving a good finish is also important. Hair styling tool are important you have a choice of sleek, curls, waves, fullness for deciding the finished look to the model.  It is very good to invest in the best tools you can possibly have to work with. Sometimes the latest and greatest is not always the best choice, manufacturers will copy others in their field and add-on gimmicks that the tools will do this and that. When I do my finish work in the salon or on set, I highly recommend using a boar bristle brush for the finish work if you are looking for sleekest, straightest and or waves. There is a company in my industry who makes the best and I highly recommend this company.

These brushes are the best to have for your salon environment to get the Smoothest, Sleekest, Styling finishes! They will cost you at least $40.00 – $50.00 a brush but they are worth it. Professionally made and the handle has an excellent grip to it.  I highly recommend these brushes for you salon.   They can be used to set the hair while you are blow drying sections and this will give you a full body finish.  Excellent product!  The bristles are tightly weaved together on the stem of the brush. So using them as a roller set is quite easy.  Leaving the brush in the hair while you are styling is a no worry they will not need any clips and will stay in exact placement for you.  Love these tools!
